Trusting Ourselves for Transformational Change

I have begun to work on trusting myself, my inner instinct, or intuition, for some time now.  That little voice that comes from our center, near our heart (as opposed to from our head). That kind, soft, quiet voice that often gets drowned out by that loud, nagging, doubting voice.  Part of the journey in my writings here is to facilitate a discussion, an awareness, of how we can each restore our trust in our higher selves.  For once we can learn to distinguish between the two "voices," we can begin to make transformational, monumental changes by listening. The constant chatter in our modern society makes it incredibly hard to draw out that quiet inner voice... But the good news is that by quieting our busy mind, we can learn to give it space to emerge. And then once we can identify that inner voice, we can work with it, we can empower it, we can start to guide our lives with it.  Truly and really.

Now, I know you have heard this before.. the benefits of meditation, blah blah blah, yes it sounds great and I know all that, but I have bigger and better things to worry about, you may be thinking.  I am not here to tell you about the health benefits of meditation. I am here to tell you that your life can be completely different, better than you ever imagined, if you can follow your inner voice and use it to guide every moment of every day.  I am starting to understand this, and I am working on putting in into practice in my everyday life, in many small moments.  By focusing on breathing while in the car, by pausing to count to five before responding to a heated email exchange, by giving thanks for the blessings in my life each morning in the shower, by sending out a light cord of compassion from my heart to my boss's heart before a meeting.

I want to write to you here to start a conversation, an awareness, about how we can start to really become who we are meant to become, what our soul longs to become. How to integrate those very nice concepts of relaxation and prayer and gratitude and love into the practical, logical, busy days that we call our lives. And the way to start doing that is through calming/quiet the thinking mind to let the intuitive voice out.  Sometimes during long stretches, sometimes during short stretches.  Start here and then begin to trust your voice, and see the magic unfold.  To be continued...

Jesus as Master Teacher

"And then Jesus said — when they asked him, 'Where is the kingdom of heaven and when is it going to come?' — he said, 'The kingdom of heaven does not come with signs to be perceived. You cannot say, ah, it's over here or look, it's over there, for I tell you the kingdom of heaven is within you.' I think if he lived nowadays, instead of 'kingdom,' he would have said, 'dimension.' And 'heaven' refers to a sense of vastness or spaciousness. So if we retranslate the words of Jesus into modern terms [it would be] 'the dimension of spaciousness is within you.' "

- Eckhart Tolle

I believe that Jesus was one of many master teachers; he was a healer who showed us how to love each other and how best to live our lives.  An incredible example for us all still today.

Merry Christmas Eve....

Relationships with Money

1381335703_34_640x960This is a season of giving, and giving usually means buying. Money is complicated, and I haven't quite figured out where my relationship stands today with it yet, but I'm getting there.  My history with money is:  not thinking about it, then thinking about it and despising it, then feeling guilty about it, and ultimately wanting it but not willing to do what it I believed I had to do to get it. Now I have made peace with my conflicting views of money, and I often spend it and give it relatively freely (within reason of course). I have come to learn that this has started to free me from feeling like I was controlled by money. Instead, I have begun the process of reclaiming money I earn as my own, and using it as a tool. I don't need a lot of it, but I do need it for some of things I want to do (retire, travel, eat healthy food, be able to provide my family with what they need). I have learned and have experienced firsthand the power of attracting what we desire for our highest and best purposes. Making an investment in my own personal and professional development has changed the course of my life's path. I am already receiving what I have put into it with money, and more.  I shared this experience with a female acquaintance of mine, who was worried about paying the hourly rate I was requesting for Tarot readings. She had been feeling like she needed some guidance in her life and was curious about the Tarot, but was concerned about spending money. I shared the following thoughts with her:  Putting the intention out there with money can set the ball rolling on the path to our taking charge of our lives and how it will unfold for us. When we are paying for something, we are much more likely to work hard to reap the benefits.  My friend recognized this and is contemplating the notion that sometimes making a lasting change for ourselves starts with this tangible commitment. Setting priorities for our lives can sometimes start with putting money down, making our efforts toward personal growth even more real, valuable and attainable in our own eyes.
